What will our background checks involve?

If you are offered a role at Hastoe, we will carry out the following background checks. We do this to ensure a safe, compliant and trustworthy environment for both staff and residents.

Experian background checks

Experian carries out background checks on our behalf following an offer of employment. Experian will need you to consent to completing these checks by sending you a form directly. We then complete the online application form on your behalf using the following details to do so.

  1. Personal details: This includes your NI number, contact details and if you have ever been known by another name.
  2. Address history: You will be required to provide your address history for the last 5 years. This will be the date you moved into your current address and the address details. If you have lived at your current address for less than 5 years, you will need to include any other addresses you have lived at during this time, with the dates you moved in and out for each address.
  3. Identity: This check involves verifying that an applicant’s provided address matches official proof of address documents, such as bank statements or a driving licence. Additionally, Experian supports this process by verifying the applicant's address against the electoral register to confirm their true identity.
  4. Adverse financial: These checks evaluate an applicant’s credit history and financial responsibility, identifying any records of CCJs, IVAs or bankruptcies.
  5. Sanctions: This check ensures compliance with legal restrictions and identifies any government-imposed sanctions.
  6. Media searches: These are undertaken to uncover any publicly available information that may reflect on the individual's suitability for the role.
  7. Directorship check: This will ask if you are currently a director of a company or have been in the past. If you select 'yes', you will need to provide more details such as the name of the company and the address where the company is registered. 
  8. Criminal Records Check (CRC): This will ask you to enter the details of the city/town and country you were born in. It will ask you to tick/untick a box if you do not want to receive a paper certificate. It will also ask if you would like your certificate to be sent to your current address or to us. It is up to you if you would like it to be sent to us or not.
  9. DBS profile: This will ask if you have previously registered with the Disclosure and Barring Service.
