What is radon?
Radon is a naturally occurring, colourless, odourless, and tasteless radioactive gas. It is constantly being produced in the earth's crust and is therefore present in the atmosphere. Every building has radon and in most areas the levels are low. You can explore your area's radon levels in an interactive map. Some buildings in "radon Affected Areas" have higher levels. As a result, we regularly test levels within your home to ensure your environment is safe for you to live in.
What can you do to reduce radon levels in your home?
When combined with other effective measures as outlined in the video below, you can improve the reduction of radon levels in your home by:
- sealing around loft-hatches
- sealing large openings in floors
- adding extra ventilation to your home
- checking your fans are working efficiently
- keeping external vents clear and free of debris
