CPRE Hampshire Countryside Awards help to showcase fabulous sustainable homes across Hampshire.
Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Hampshire, Nigel Atkinson Esq, last night presented the CPRE Hampshire Award for Sustainable Buildings to a learning centre in Winchester.

The award, sponsored by Hastoe, was presented at the ceremony for 11th annual CPRE Hampshire Countryside Awards, which help to celebrate our beautiful, diverse and living countryside.

The winner of this year’s award was Wessex Learning Centre, a new contemporary building located at Winchester Cathedral which helps to enable a greater range of activities and brings a new perspective to the understanding of life at the Cathedral.

Karen Hillhouse, Hastoe Regional Head of Development for South and CPRE Hampshire Awards judge, said: “The Wessex Learning Centre is deceptively simple building but is beautifully detailed and blends effortlessly into the historical context. Its credentials are sustainable in both construction and in its use as a learning centre for schools, visitors and for local events.”

Judges also highly commended another project, Forest Lodge in Brook. Forest Lodge is a mobile dwelling which replaces a traditional static caravan on a five-acre site in the New Forest National Park.

Karen Hillhouse said: “This project is an exemplar of what can be achieved with ingenuity and an interrogation of the planning system. The house was constructed off site and assembled in two parts to Passivhaus standards. The judges felt the house sat beautifully within its context as the contemporary detailing and stained sweet chestnut cladding offer a seamless connection to the landscape.”

Commenting on the awards, Hastoe Chief Executive and award presenter Sue Chalkley said: “Hastoe is delighted to have been supported these awards which show that it is possible to build beautiful, energy efficient affordable homes that add value to and support the sustainability of our rural communities.”

“2017 saw a record number of quality entries and an enjoyable night was had by all at the awards ceremony. Bravo CPRE Hampshire and all those who entered the awards.”
