Community to hear more about new affordable homes in Newport

22/06/2017
A meeting is being held a week today (Thursday 29 June) for residents of Newport, Essex to find out more about forthcoming affordable homes which will be available solely to those from the local area.
The open meeting will be hosted by Hastoe Housing Association, the leading rural affordable housing specialist, who will be displaying an initial layout for the new affordable homes to the west of Cambridge Road, Newport. The meeting will allow residents to hear more about the development and how they can apply to buy or rent one of the properties.

There will be a total of 34 affordable homes on the site – 25 houses and flats for affordable rent and nine houses for shared ownership – all of which will be prioritised for people with a local connection. The homes will also be built to AECB Silver Standard, which ensures that the housebuilders follow environmentally responsible practices for high-performance buildings.

The builders are on site right now and Hastoe hopes that all the homes will be completed and ready to move by early 2018.

Hastoe Development Manager for the East Ulrike Maccariello said: “In Newport and all over the country, rural communities are declining as local people have to leave in search of somewhere affordable to live.

“We are delighted to be providing these much needed new homes for the people of Newport. Because the homes that we are building are affordable and prioritised for local people, residents will be able to remain in the village where they live, work or have family ties.

“Genuine community engagement is incredibly important to Hastoe, so we hope to see many residents at the meeting to keep them updated about the development and let them know how they can apply to buy or rent one of the homes.”
