As founder members of the Rural Housing Alliance, we are committed to working closely with local communities, including parish and district councils, to build the homes that those communities need and want.
Our role usually begins when approached by a parish council seeking assistance. At their invitation, we arrange for a housing needs assessment and identify sites with the parish councillors and the planners. We then put forward an initial design for the preferred site, contact the landowner and begin the essential work of engaging and consulting with the wider community.
We have built our reputation on providing sensitively designed, quality homes to high environmental standards, so it is important to us that we listen carefully and respond positively to the community’s views. Once a design is agreed we can move to a planning application and construction.
From the day a parish council approaches us to the day the new residents move in can take from four to 16 years! However long it takes, we always give qualifying local people in housing need first priority for every home and we ensure that affordable homes remain so in perpetuity.

The BIMBY Housing Toolkit http://www.bimby.org.uk is a simple, practical online tool for community groups to use. It supports communities to feel engaged with the planning process and to work positively with planners and developers to create what they see as ‘Beauty In My Back Yard’ (BIMBY).
Community groups work through the steps in the BIMBY Toolkit. The end result is a BIMBY Housing Manual. This is comprehensive and professional report details their
communal vision for good quality local housing. It will help engage developers
and planners as all work towards meeting current housing targets.
