These 14 low carbon homes in Norfolk will have very low running costs which is a huge benefit to residents in a world of ever- increasing energy prices. Other Hastoe Passivhaus schemes due to be created include schemes at Horseheath, Burnham Overy Staithe, Hatfield Heath, Outwell and Upwell.

Features of the homes include: whole house ventilation system, improved insulation and air tightness, water saving taps and shower fittings, low energy lighting, recycling facilities, bicycle storage, composter, bird boxes and bird tables and the bungalows have solar panels on the roofs which provide some free electricity to residents.

Hastoe has created the homes in Ditchingham following the successful creation of 12 homes in Wimbish, Essex, that are being monitored by the University of East Anglia and lessons learnt have been implemented.

Regional Head of Development for Hastoe East, John Lefever, said:

“The team at Hastoe was proud to be presented with the seal Certified Passivhaus by Prof Wolfgang Feist for our scheme at Ditchingham. We were delighted to learn that we now have two fully certified Passivhaus schemes. The commitment from everyone involved has been overwhelming and to have our hard work and dedication honoured in this way is fantastic.

“Prof Wolfgang Feist is known as the founder of the Passivhaus method of building and many tens of thousands of homes are built to this extremely energy-efficient standard across mainland Europe and now across the world. The UK is now embracing the Passivhaus standard and Hastoe is renowned as a leader in delivering these homes which we are building to help residents avoid fuel poverty.  Hastoe currently has around 100 Passivhaus homes in its future build programme and we are looking forward to delivering these.”
